Step by Step Guide to Paid Survey Sites

This is your ultimate step-by-step guide to learn how paid survey sites work. We will show you everything from signing up for an app or site to receiving payouts and referring your friends. Most of these steps are inspired by the process in Poll Pay, but they are usually very similar across different sites.

These are the ultimate steps:

  1. Finding the right app to download
  2. Signing up to take surveys
  3. Completing your profile
  4. Taking your first surveys
  5. Getting your first payout
  6. Referring a friend to receive bonuses

1. Finding the right app to download

This question might be a bit trickier to answer than you think. There are endless survey apps and websites available so it can easily be overwhelming to choose which one to sign up to. Firstly, you need to distinguish legitimate survey sites from scam sites. We have created a guide on how to spot legit paid survey sites. Some apps only offer mobile services whilst others have a website as well. Choose which mobile device you want to use in the beginning.

Have a look below to find download links for some popular (and definitely legit) survey apps:

2. Signing up to take surveys

After downloading your brand new survey app or finding the perfect website, the sign-up process begins. Most times, you only need a valid email address and are asked to create a password. Some survey apps use two-factor authentification. This means, you will be asked to give your phone number, they will send you a code via SMS and after entering the code in the app, you are good to go! Other apps also offer the possibility to create an individual user name but others identify you by email only.

Also: Do not forget to turn on your push notifications for your app! You do not want to miss special offers, events or new interesting surveys. Especially new users are particularly interesting so you will probably be offered several special rewards!

3. Completing your profile

The next step of our guide to paid surveys is setting up your profile. This is crucial in order to receive surveys you are interested in and topics that fit to your preferences. There are two steps to completing your profile.

Firstly: Setting up personal information. Most times you will be asked directly, sometimes this option is hidden in your profile settings: Filling ut personal information such as your age, gender, profession, living situation, highest school or working qualification, etc. Remember that these (legitimate) apps and sites will treat your data cautiously and store it anonymously. These details will be used to place you in target groups for surveys, for example, if someone is looking for females between 20-25 years old who work as teachers.

Secondly: Filling out targeting questions. Some of these questions are similar to your personal information while others ask for your interests or lifestyle. On the one hand, this helps the app to fit you into target groups for surveys again. On the other hand, it enables the system to show you surveys it knows you will be interested in.

Some apps offer targeting questions throughout the whole time you are using the app, so you can always give more information to unlock new surveys!

4. Taking your first surveys

You have made it this far, now you are finally ready to go! Your first surveys are waiting for you on your app´s dashboard! Dive right into the paid survey universe and begin filling your account with cash!

Usually, you will see how long a survey takes, how much money it pays and which topic it is about right next to the survey title. You do not need to take high-paying surveys only, because they sometimes have very narrow target groups and might disqualify you. Thus, a few shorter surveys which pay a little less might be more rewarding in the end.

Disqualification happens when you answer incongruently on a survey or your personal information does not match the survey´s criteria. It can be frustrating to be disqualified but do not get too worked up about it. Filling out more targeting questions and taking less challenging surveys will lead to successful finishing.

5. Getting your first payout

When a couple surveys are done, you can start thinking about your first payout. There are several options available on most sites: direct payout to your PayPal account or different online gift cards, for example from Amazon.com, are the most popular variants. Furthermore, you need to reach a certain threshold first before you can withdraw money. Usually, payouts start from $5 or $10. Depending on the payout method it might take a few days but you can be sure to receive your first paid online survey money soon!

6. Referring a friend to receive bonuses

This is the last step in our guide to paid survey sites. Actually, this is a tip for already advanced survey takers which you do not necessarily have to take in order to be successful in a survey app. However, this can be a great option to receive more money: inviting a friend.

Many apps offer special bonuses for you – and your friends – when you invite them to the app. This works via an invite code you can see in your app. Simply share it with a friend and both of you will get rewards. For example, in Poll Pay your friend will receive a certain starting bonus and you will earn 15% of their income for lifetime!
